While we shouldn’t have more Federal regulations, we have to have some type of regulation. Otherwise sleazeballs like Bernie Made-off and fat-boy Louis Pearlman wouldn’t be punished one bit for their crimes.
I’ve thought something more along the lines of food regulation. Resturants are regularly reviewed by local health inspectors. The resturants are graded and any regulation breakage results in fines. Bad enough fines result in the resturant getting shut down. When the public finds out about these fines, its bad for business because no one wants to eat at a resturant where rats were found…usually. In the end, its not the government levied fines that kills the resturant, its that the public refuses to give the resturant business.
Same thing with banks and financial institutions. Enough government regulation breakage, and no one will do business with that bank or financial institution.
Plus, if you’ll note, the Food industry is THE definition of the Free Market. McDonalds, Burger King, etc, are always battling for the lowest priced meals. And if a resturant sets its prices too high or has crappy service, it will go out of business because no one will eat there.
