Don’t Feel Like Activating Vista? It’s Cool, Take As Long As You Like!
Straight from Gizmodo: “With a simple registry tweak, you can take that 30-day activation deadline and shove it—possibly forever. According to Brian Livingston, publisher of Windows Secrets, the activation delay hack previously thought to work for 120 days can be reused “indefinitely,” though it varies from copy to copy. The haxx0ring? Change a registry key (SkipRearm) hex value. That’s it, but check the article for a full rundown—newer shipped copies of Home seem to have plugged the loophole, so it may only work in other versions shipped after March. Guess they really do want you to pirate Windows.”
Well, maybe this good news will silence all the Vista complainers! Vista is activiation free, at least!
Seriously though, I find this amusing — Vista is getting kicked around in so many different ways, by so many different people. Maybe Shelly Palmer said it best.

Jason,
Scott Dunn of Windows Secrets thinks Microsoft has some explaining to do.
When Microsoft offered Vista Ultimate, the the priciest version of the
company’s new operating system, it was supposed to leave its counterparts in
the dust. Promised: a full complement of exclusive features from
enhancements to programs to Ultimate-only content. Delivered: a poker
game?
The blogosphere has started taking notice, and on Thursday, Windows Secrets
Associate Editor Scott Dunn is going to open the gates on this story about
Microsoft’s unfulfilled promises, and given your previous coverage on
Vista, I thought you might find this noteworthy.
Tomorrow at 1:30 p.m Eastern/10:30 a.m. Pacific, Scott will hold a
conference call (1-641-297-5600, access code 81619) on the Ultimate features
issue to answer any questions you might have. We’d love to have your input
on this, and if you’d like to speak to Scott independently, get in touch
with me and I should be able to set something up.
Also, if you’d like an embargoed copy of the article (which goes live on
Thursday at 12:30 AM at http://WindowsSecrets.com/comp/070621/#story1), send
me an email and I’ll get it off to you.
Best,
John Mulligan
