Fark Headline – Hezbollah takes advantage of cease-fire to rebuild its infrastructure and work to create a lasting peace. Nah, just kidding: They’ve stockpiled thousands of rockets
Straight from Fox News: “BEIRUT, Lebanon — Hezbollah’s leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah made his first public appearance since his group’s war with Israel began July 12, taking the stage Friday at a rally by hundreds of thousands of his supporters in Beirut’s bombed-out suburbs.
Nasrallah had called the rally to celebrate the “divine and historic victory” over Israel, and supporters packed a lot for an expected speech by the guerrilla leader.
The crowd — waving hundreds of yellow Hezbollah flags — roared as Nasrallah appeared waving to the crowd, flanked by his bodyguards. An announcer said, “The leader has arrived.”"
Charge in 5 minutes, Drive 500 miles?
Straight from Slashdot: “In the wake of rising gasoline costs there have been plenty of alternatives seen on the horizon. Including Hybrids, Biofuels, fuel cells and battery powered all electric cars. CNN has recently posted a story about a company (EEStor) that plans on offering Ultra-Capacitor storage products. The claim being that you charge the ultra-capacitor in 5 minutes, with approximately 9$ (~$.45 a gallon) of electricity and then drive 500 miles.”
Mars Express: Return to Cydonia
Straight from Astronomy Picture of the Day: “Explanation: The unusual stone mesas of the Cydonia region on Mars are quite striking in appearance. Last week, the Mars Express project released a new close-up image of a portion of the Cydonia region on Mars. This new image, taken by the robotic Mars Express spacecraft now orbiting Mars, shows an area about 90 kilometers wide. In the far lower right of the above image, a particularly picturesque mesa can be seen as the upper right of the two mesas visible there. This mesa, when lit from just the right sun angle, can appear similar to a human face and became famous as the Face on Mars in 1976 Viking orbiter images. Better images show it to be just an interesting mesa. Such complex looking landforms in the Cydonia region are thought to be the result of landslides and erosion of the ancient Martian crust.”
(Space) Marine Corps plan to deploy through space
Straight from Defense Tech: “The Marine Corps calls the concept the Small Unit Space Transport and Insertion Capability (Sustain). This plan, a growing group of Marine supporters say, is the natural evolution of the service’s proclivity for expeditionary warfare that began decades ago with amphibious landings…
The concept is to deliver strategic equipment or a small squad of soldiers to any point on the globe — even the most hard-to-reach location — within hours of need. Once on the ground, those soldiers can carry out strategically critical missions like reconnaissance or destroying a specific target.”
